The Daily Digital Photo
Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

September 25, 2007

So how do you like the gauzy look, bet you think I worked pretty hard in Photoshop, huh? Bzzztt! No, it's because I still don't know how to use my digital SLR properly, though I do know that for low light such as this a tripod would help and perhaps I will bring one into the woods tonight. But anyway, that is all just by way of excuse because this was the best photo I have to go along with my story about our walk in the woods last night. Before I get started I have to explain that our woods are quite overgrown, more so than in this photo from last week, because neither Phillip has not gotten out there to mow the path. So consequently it is next to impossible to see a beagle, even an NBA center like Spenser, unless he's right in front of you. Okay. So last night Phillip and I did the loop around the back woods and when we came back to the clearing we saw Spenser (sniffing where we had just seen a three-point buck!) but not Clayton. Have I mentioned that Clayton has become hard of hearing? Yes, he has and calling him is no longer very effective. In fact, it's not effective at all. So Phillip took out the tracking antennna, turned it on, spun around two or three times while it went beep, beep, beep, then stopped, pointed straight ahead and said, "out there." So out there we walked while the beeping got louder and louder until we saw him, our happy little beagle trundling down the path (sniffing of course, because that's his job). "Clayton!" called Phillip. Nothing. "Clayton!" he repeated. Still nothing. "Claaayton!" Clayton stopped and turned around to look at us, his tail wagging. His ears don't work as well as they used to and he's slower on the way back home, but his trademark Clayton tail wag is no different from the day we got him. He's our Clayton, he's our boy.
