Clayton, Spenser, Scooter and Sherman: then and now.

October 9, 2009

Clayton is the most dedicated kitchen helper I've ever had the privilege of working with. Chopping a huge supply of vegetables? He's there. Constructing a lasagne? He's your man. Making applesauce? Clayton settles down on the little rug and waits. And while Sherman is not as food-driven, he too likes to plop himself down on the floor when there's any action in the kitchen.

I had a routine colonoscopy this past Monday. You're asleep for the procedure so there's really nothing to it. Except of course for The Prep the day before. And that's where we return to the kitchen. I had 2-1/2 hours to drink the most vile liquid imaginable. They give you a choice of flavor packages and I used two but nothing helped. I had also prepared some bowls of lemon and lime jello (the only "food" you can eat for the day) which were on the counter next to The Drink. Every half hour I'd go into the kitchen with the boys on my heels, pour myself a glass, then stand and ponder it for awhile, hoping that perhaps my thoughts could lower the level of the liquid. Didn't work. I'd have a spoonful of jello and wait some more. Meanwhile, the boys are getting more and more confused. "What the heck is she doing? Where's the FOOD??" And here's the point of the story, not ONCE did they stay all the way through one glass of The Drink. Nope, they were out of the kitchen and back to the sofa, where I guess they felt they had a better chance of getting something to eat.
