Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

May 29, 2007

We had a huge storm the other night with claps of thunder that sounded like someone had fired a rifle next to my ear. Spenser doesn't like thunder and becomes an absolute nervous wreck as soon as it starts. I was at my computer when the thunder began, low at first, not waking either Spenser or Clayton but then gathering force and after the first loud clap there was a large and panting beagle trying to crawl up into my lap. Poor boy was practically beside himself so I left my computer and sat down on the couch with him. I held him, I petted him, I talked in a happy singsong but nothing would dissuade him from thinking that the end of the world had arrived. He even tried to crawl up and over me onto the back of the couch. Phillip came home about fifteen minutes into the storm and took over Spenser control while I Googled "Klonopin dog dosage" hoping to find out if we could tranquilize him. But all my search retrieved were sites urging me to buy Valium without a prescription so we waited it out, another twenty minutes or so until Spenser began to calm down and went back to sleep, one exhausted cowboy. It's going to be a long summer.
