Chronicling the life of Clayton, Spenser and Scooter
March 7, 2007
I took the afternoon off yesterday and brought the dynamic duo here down to
Red Bank (the vet hospital - here's their site).
Only Spenser was scheduled - his first radiation treatment - but on Monday night we caught Scooter
assiduously licking a spot high up on his tail. We had noticed a small red
spot there two days ago and now it looked like an abcess. Fortunately
it didn't hurt him, but it clearly needed to be looked at by the vet.
I don't know how difficult it is for those of you with more than one dog to have two on leash at the same time, but for me it's not easy, especially if Spenser is one of them. He's a big boy (42 pounds) with a mind of his own and he pulls with amazing force. I must have seemed like a crazy lady getting them into and out of the building, with two leashes twisted around my legs, my tote bag falling off my shoulder and several choice words coming out of my mouth.
Fortunately, the vet is not overly concerned with Scooter's tail and said just to watch it and try to keep him from licking. Finally some good news for the Scootie Patootie. His chemo was rescheduled from Wednesday to Friday. Scooter's vet is also treating Spenser and he told me that Spenser won't experience any discomfort until late next week or the week after. He's scheduled for radiation every weekday through the 28th. As I've mentioned (probably because I feel guilty) Phillip is going to do most of the driving, more than 1500 miles if my math is correct. But who wouldn't drive that and more to heal their beagle? Every mile is worth it, because he's our Mr. Man and he's going to get well.
