Clayton, Spenser, Scooter and Sherman: then and now.
June 17, 2009
Please try not to focus on the mess that is my patio and concentrate instead on
Sherman's position: back legs planted on the ground and front legs UP. This
is the way he arrived, always jumping up for attention. Of course sometimes it's
cute but other times it's not, such as when we're eating and he tries to jump on
our lap, or we're walking on the canal and he jumps up on a child who is wary of dogs, even 22-pound-bundle-of-love dogs.
So we have to train him not to jump up. When we're
eating, Phillip mercilously puts him on a doggy bed, over and over and over and over again.
I practically finish my meal before he starts. (I need to acquire some of Phillip's tenacity.)
He doesn't hear us correcting him so we are using a sign instead.
I ordered a book on living with deaf dogs and hope for some miracle training tips,
though if you have any in the meantime, please send them along. P.S. I found one of my
shoes up on the couch last night. Not chewed, just safely tucked into the corner
in case he needed it later.
