Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

June 5, 2008

I love hearing about dogs (including beagles) who attempt to shepherd their people to bed at night, who don't like going to bed without them. How awfully cute that is. My boys don't do that, but Spenser does usually follow me upstairs when I go to bed early to read. Scooter frequently preceded me, taking his corner spot on the bed, opening one eye in greeting when I arrived. Clayton on the other hand never goes to bed early, and in fact he is usually the last one upstairs (unless Phillip carries him up). I have two theories about this, one is that he can't hear well and hence sleeps through all the noise I make before going up. Or, he's waiting for Phillip to have his late night snack. It's probably some of each. So it has been a very pleasant surprise this week to find him sprawled out on the bed when I came in after brushing and washing. More than a pleasant surprise, really, to see my little guy laying there, eyes bright, saying perhaps, "THERE you are! Where have you BEEN?"
