Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter
June 13, 2007
Carol emailed me yesterday asking if there was a story behind the the
notch in Clayton's ear or whether he came to us already sporting it.
Well, Carol, there is a story and guess who else is in it? Yes, the
Scooter Patooter. I don't remember what year it was but I do remember
that it was a Saturday morning. Clayton ond Scooter were out in the
yard and suddenly I heard them come running inside the doggy door going at
least mach 10 with Scooter hot on Clayton's heels (they were playing).
It couldn't have been more than a minute later
when I looked down and saw blood all over the
floor. I yelled for Phillip while I grabbed the beagles and saw that
the blood was coming from Clayton's ear.
Phillip carried him to the kitchen where the blood couldn't stain
anything, and he sat down with him and applied pressure to the wound. We decided
that while playing, Scooter had taken a bite out of his big brother's ear.
Just like Mike Tyson. It was now about 8AM and the vet didn't open
until 9, but after about fifteen minutes of applying pressure Phillip
didn't think his fingers could make it, so it was off to the 24-hour emergency
vet. They took us right away and the vet asked if Clayton had eaten
that morning in case they had to knock him out. "Yes, he did eat, but
he's a very good patient and he will probably do just fine with a local."
The vet was just a tiny bit skeptical but when he finished suturing up
Clayton's ear the tech came out and RAVED about what a fine young man
our Clayton was and it's too bad more dogs aren't that calm. The ear healed perfectly but the notch remains
(we declined a more sophisticated and expensive cosmetic procedure),
a reminder to this day of our little Scootie Tyson.
P.S. I'm pretty sure I told this story days after it happened and if anyone knows which DD that was, please let me know!
