Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

July 23, 2008

It was a comparatively balmy 81 degrees at 6PM last night so I put on my bug spray and off we went to the woods. We have a trail that goes all the way to the end of the property, punctuated by benches, a new hammock, and, of course, derelict Diet Mt. Dew cans. My routine is to walk all the way out to the back, wait for Clayton to catch up, and give him a treat for being such a trooper. He carefully follows me to the other end of the loop keeping his eye at all times on my pocket. Now that we have a hammock, that becomes my next destination. How lovely to hang out in the hammock! But here's the problem, the boys don't see this as an opportunity to explore the woods while I rest, no, they see it as an opportunity to stand under the hammock and pant. "Go, run run!" I implore, to no avail. So after a few minutes we walk the loop again and head back in, stopping for the final treat at the gate. Another day, another adventure.
