Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

July 24, 2007

Food does not have to be on the coffee table for Spenser to reach it. At over 17" tall, he can nab anything within the first couple of inches of the kitchen counter. So we have spent eleven years making sure that food gets pushed back if we leave it alone. Of course we're not always perfect and Spenser has enjoyed the occasional pizza, turkey sandwich, unbaked biscotti dough, etc. I'll never forget the day we got him. His previous owners were moving to England and didn't want to subject him to the 8-week quarantine. We all met mid-way at Phillip's mother's house. When they took Spenser out of the car I looked at this dog and thought, "You've got to be kidding! He's as tall as a horse!" We love Spenser regardless of his height, of course, and in fact Phillip and I, both lacking in tall genes, live just a little vicariously through our extra-large Mr Man.
