Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

July 16, 2007

I was on the couch yesterday afternoon, somewhere between my book and a nap when Phillip came in and told the boys that it was time for their trip to the woods. While he was collaring them up, he turned to Spenser and said, "Spenser, I think it might be time to consolidate these collars. Maybe put your fence collar and tracking collar together and get rid of the remote shocker collar." I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that Phillip thinks that Spenser's escape days are over. I am not so sure. In any case, I kept quiet. Next thing I knew the phone woke me. "I have your dog in my car?" Huh? "Yeah, we saw him walking on the road so we picked him up and we're at Chester's?" Now I was awake. Spenser had escaped but some nice person had rescued him and I had to get him at Chester's Market. I called Phillip to tell him and got in the car to retrieve Spenser. I met a lovely family of four who did such a kind thing. They saw a dog on the road and instead of just driving by and making the dog someone else's problem, they put him in their car and took on the responsibilities that would entail. I am very grateful to them for removing Spenser from danger. And please, make sure your beagles wear identification, too.
