Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

July 10, 2007

Ah. Spenser is enjoying another refreshing beverage. He is a weird dog. He will not drink out of doggy water bowls. Absolutely not. As you can see, he has a water bowl next to his food bowl, which I fill with fresh water each day but it's just for show, he never touches it. Nope, after breakfast he sneaks upstairs and has a nice drinkie from the toilet in my bathroom, and in the evening he quaffs here, from the toilet in the powder room. (I've never seen him drink from the toilet in Phillip's bathroom. Q.E.D.) I keep a cereal bowl filled with water below the sink and if I can see Spenser heading to the toilet (sometimes he makes a big deal of poking his head in) then I can often lure him out of there. He will only drink out of the cereal bowl if he sees me put fresh water in. It doesn't always work, though, sometimes he'll taste it and turn away in disgust and head to the toilet. Okay, Spenser, you win. Spenser also enjoys drinking from the little stream out in the woods, standing water of all kinds like in the blue tarpaulin we use to gather leaves in the fall, or in the arms of those white plastic chairs when they're turned over. I'm sure that Spenser would take his martinis shaken, not stirred. Now if I could only get him to drink out of a doggy bowl.
