Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter
January 6, 2009
When I was just a little girl, way back in the -- oh, let me see -- the mid 1960s, our family
car was a turquoise Rambler station wagon. It was the only station wagon we ever had (although
I would go on to own a succession of white Subaru station wagons) and I remember how much I
enjoyed sitting in the way back. That's what we called it, the Way Back, and the name has stuck in my mind, as in
"Phillip, will you please get the groceries out of the Way Back?"
Clayton and Spenser generally sit in the back seat, but we were four people this day so they got
to enjoy the vantage point from the Way Back. Clayton soon settled down for a nap and Spenser tried
to climb over the seat. Road trip!
P.S. to my brother-in-law Rick, Happy Birthday! Your card is late but the sentiment is there!
