Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

December 18, 2007

Brotherly love is not all black and white. Take Sunday night. Phillip and I were watching TV in bed with Spenser under the covers when Clayton arrived. He climbed up onto the bed and looked around, sniffing for Spenser. "He's right here," I told Clayton, patting the covers, which started to move as Spenser's head emerged. He climbed out, panting. Right then, Clayton's tail went up. Now, I've lived with this dog for twelve years and I know when he's about to go mental on Spenser. That time was now. Spenser knew it as well and as he headed for the pillows he growled. "Grab Clayton!" I yelled while I pinned Spenser. Phillip did, and put him in his crate, while Spenser got off the bed and left the room. As he walked by Clayton a howl emerged from the crate. 99% of the time, Clayton exemplifies mellow, but every now and then he becomes acutely jealous, I guess, and his evil twin emerges. Fortunately for us last night it was only a brief guest appearance and harmony has been restored.
