Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

August 23, 2007

This is one of the spots where Clayton likes to wait while we eat dinner. It affords an open view of the kitchen table and close proximity to the treat cabinet for when the meal is over. Clayton almost never hangs out near the table. He has very good manners in this department and in fact he came to us that way. Spenser's manners are almost as good about 90% of the time, so there's not too much to complain about there. Skipper is another story. Skipper has been sitting right at the base of my chair and has even out his front paws up ON my chair during the meal. No, no, Skipper! No begging is allowed. Sometimes we let our canine guests sit near the table if they're not too annoying, but we usually try to teach them to sit a polite distance away. Phillip tried this with Skipper last night. He pushed him back into the other half of the kitchen and said, "Skipper, stay!" Skipper instantly got up and returned to his spot. So Phillip tried it again. And again. And again and again. Finally his food was getting cold and I told him to give it up. Now, I told you yesterday that Cathy and Judy both have Ph.Ds. I have to tell you, I don't think Skipper does. I really don't. In fact, I don't think that Skipper even made it to first grade gym class. Forgive me, Cathy and Judy, but Skipper isn't incredibly, how shall we say, well okay, smart. Which is not to say he doesn't have a winning personality, because he does. We even have a song for him, entitled (how's this for originality) "Skipper the Schipperke."

Tootsie and Buttercup arrive this afternoon. Skipper leaves on Saturday which is also the day I head out to Seattle and Portland to visit my family. Phillip will remain at home with the beagles. The Daily Digital will be LIVE from the Pacific Northwest, starring the basset hounds Jackson, Telsha, Penny P. and Elliot, and last but decidedly not least, oh no no no, BABY LEXI!!
