Chronicling the life of Clayton and Spenser, with memories of Scooter

April 9, 2007

Say hi to Moses. He's a two-year old English mastiff who lives in New Hampshire with Phillip's brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Roseanne. Moses (appropriately enough) joined our belated Passover festivities this past weekend at Phillip's mother's house in Connecticut. The boys stayed home with Courtney, Mike, Buttercup and Tootsie. I find it stressful to keep them out of trouble at his mother's, and with two other dogs there in addition to Moses the canine saturation level is already pretty high. But back to Moses. He is a terribly sweet dog with good manners and a surprising ability to maneuver around people and furniture without knocking anyone or thing over. What is most amazing though is that he does not touch any food on tables, counters or floors. Boggles the mind.

This is Wayne, Phillip's brother. Moses worships Wayne. They came down together in Wayne's truck. Wayne said that Moses is an excellent traveling companion until he decides to put his head in Wayne's lap. Wayne and Roseanne have always had dogs, none of whom were allowed to sleep in the bed. Until Moses. Wayne and Roseanne got the twin beds this trip and Moses insisted on sleeping with Wayne. Which might account for his late-morning fatigue.

Moses has 20 pounds on me. I kept mistaking him for a pony.

"You mean he's not a pony?" says Maia.

Tennis balls can disappear entirely in Moses' mouth. Probably
bowling balls too and maybe next time we'll try that out.
